Do you know who you are? Do you know the truth about your identity? Sadly, many young people spend much of their teenage years confused about these questions. They are confused because of the conflicting messages they hear from those around them.

The atheist wants them to believe they are nothing more than the product of time, chance, and millions of years of macro evolution. Society wants them to think that their identity is defined by their physical appearance, wealth, status, and gender. Some even want them to believe they have the authority to determine their identity.

The truth about your identity is found in the Bible. The Bible is God’s word, revealing that God created you! You are the product of His design and handiwork! This means that…

Your existence is intentional.

  • You did not get here by chance (Genesis 1:26-27). God made you and all human beings on purpose.
  • Jesus puts His stamp of approval on the creation account in Genesis (Matthew 19:4-5).
  • This means that you are exactly who you are supposed to be.
  • It also means that you are accountable to your Creator (John 12:48).

Your existence is unique.

  • You were made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). No other part of God’s creation is described in this way.
  • You are special, unique, and the crowning achievement of God’s creative work! You can do certain things that no other creation of God can.
  • You can make conscious choices (Joshua 24:15).
  • You can think critically and reason.
  • You have been given dominion (Genesis 2:19). We can rule over and share some of God’s authority over His creation.
  • You have an eternal soul (Matthew 10:28).

Your existence has a purpose.

  • Your purpose is to bear the image of God (Colossians 3:10). It is to bring glory to the One who made you (1 Corinthians 10:31).
  • Bringing glory to God involves learning about Him and His will (Psalm 19:1-8).
  • It also involves fearing and serving God (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
  • It also involves seeking His forgiveness, fellowship, and a relationship with Him (John 3:16).

Conclusion:

Are you fulfilling your God-given purpose?
