In life we have a lot of questions. We have questions about life. We have questions for God.

We are not the only one with questions. God has some as well! After Adam and Eve committed sin in the Garden of Eden, God confronted them with some very serious questions. He wanted them to come out from hiding and think seriously about what they had done.

Consider the three important questions that God had for Adam and Eve.

“Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9)

  • God asked Adam this question to get him to think about the choice that he had made.
    • God wanted Adam to understand that because of sin, their relationship had changed.
    • No longer was Adam in fellowship with God.
    • This is why Adam was ashamed and hiding.
  • What about you?
    • Where are you spiritually? Have you grown this year?
    • Where are you when it comes to kingdom work? Are you plugged in to the work of God? Are you using your spiritual talents and abilities to serve others?

“Who told you that?” (Genesis 3:10-11)

  • God asked Adam this question to get him to think about who he had listened to.
    • Both Adam and Eve knew the commandment of God (Genesis 2:15-17; 3:2-3).
    • And yet, they didn’t listen to God’s word.
    • Instead they listened to the devil!
  • What about you? Who are you listening to when it comes to the important matters of life?
    • Who are you listening to when it comes to marriage and divorce (Malachi 2:16; Matthew 19:1-9)?
    • Who you are listening to when it comes to Jesus (John 14:6).
    • Who are listening to when it comes to drinking (Proverbs 20:1)?
    • Who are listening to when it comes to pornography (Matthew 5:28)?
    • Who are listening to when it comes to baptism (Mark 16:16)?

“What have you done?” (Genesis 3:12-13)

  • God asked Eve this question to get her to take responsibility for her actions.
    • Instead of taking personal responsibility, both Adam and Eve blame others!
    • This is similar to what King Ahab did (1 Kings 18:17-18).
    • This is very different than what King David did (Psalm 51:1-4).
  • What about you?
    • Do you take personal responsibility for your sins?
    • Do you own them and confess them to God?
    • This is exactly what God wanted Adam and Eve to do.

Conclusion: These questions that God had for Adam and Eve are still relevant to us today.
