How confident are you in the Lord’s words in John 14:6? Out of all the claims made by Jesus in the gospel, these are among the most controversial. Here the Lord leaves no middle ground when it comes to what He wants people to believe about Him.

Let’s consider the three powerful claims the Lord makes about Himself.

He is the way.

  • That is, He is the way to heaven.
    • He is the only One who can give us access to the Father (John 14:6b).
    • He is the way to living a life that pleases God!
  • No other religious leader can legitimately make this claim.
    • Jesus is the only Savior (Acts 4:10-12).
    • Jesus is the only Son of God (John 3:16).
    • Jesus is the only head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23).

He is the truth.

  • In a postmodern society, this is a radical concept.
    • Many folks believe that there is no such thing as truth.
    • They especially believe this when it comes to matters of morality and religion.
  • Jesus says otherwise!
    • Jesus says that truth is real. It can be known and it will set us free (John 8:31-32).
    • Jesus is the source of truth. He came to the earth to reveal truth from heaven,
    • His standard is all that really matters (John 12:48; Mark 16:16).

He is the life.

  • He is the source of both physical and spiritual life (John 6:27; 10:10, 27-28; 11:25-26).
    • The atheist believes that this life is all there is.
    • Jesus says that He can offer us life that extends beyond the grave.
  • Why should we believe Jesus?
    • Because He was raised from the dead (Romans 1:4).
    • Christians have a “living hope” because of the resurrection of Jesus (1 Peter 1:3-5).
    • Always have confidence in this!

Conclusion: Do you need to come to the way, the truth, and the life?
