If you knew that you would not speak to the people you love for a while, what would you say to them? What would be the last things you wanted them to remember?

In Revelation 22:21, we find the last verse of the Bible. It contains God’s final message to humanity. What words should stand out to us in this verse?

Grace

  • In a book filled with apocalyptic judgment language, the Bible ends by talking about God’s grace. It concludes the same way it began.
  • God’s grace is His “unmerited favor.” It is His goodness, kindness, and compassion being given to those who do not deserve it.
  • We can read about God’s grace throughout the book of Genesis (Genesis 3:15; 6:6-8; 19:12-17).
  • God’s grace is ultimately given through the redemptive work of His Son (John 1:14, 17; Romans 3:24; 5:2, 21; 6:23; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 1:3-8; 2:1-8; Titus 2:11-14).
  • Those who truly appreciate God’s grace won’t misuse and abuse it. They won’t foolishly use it as a license to sin (Romans 6:1-2). We won’t be selfish and upset when God extends His grace to others. We won’t walk around proud and arrogant. We won’t ever think that is anything we could ever do to earn salvation!

Lord

  • Making the case that Jesus is the Lord was one of the main purposes of Peter’s great sermon on Pentecost (Acts 2:36).
  • Jesus being the Lord means that He has all authority and power (Matthew 28:18). It means that He is the supreme Ruler and Master.
  • Since He is the Creator and Savior, that means that He has the right to set the boundaries for our lives, and we are obligated to submit to it.

Amen

  • This word is often spoken in our worship assemblies. We say it during sermons, songs, and at the end of prayers.
  • This word is often used in the Old and New Testaments (Nehemiah 8:6; 2 Corinthians 1:20; Ephesians 3:21). Jesus used it often in the form of “verily” and “truly” (Matthew 17:20; 18:3, 13, 18). The Lord is called “the Amen” in Revelation 3:14).
  • The word “Amen” means “sure, faithful, and true.” It is declaring for something “to be so.” It is used at the end of Revelation to express confidence in the promises of the book.
  • We need to have an “amen” towards all of the promises of God (Matthew 28:20; Psalm 34:15-17; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 John 1:9; Acts 1:11; John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Peter 3:9-13).

Conclusion:

What will the Lord say to you when He comes again (Matthew 25:31-46)?
