(Acts 17:30-31)

The Judgment Day is one of the most preached on subjects in the Bible. It is a topic that Paul felt the need to inform the people in Athens about while laboring there.

Consider five very important things that Paul says concerning this great day to come.

This day will occur (Acts 17:31a).

  • God “has fixed a day” in which this will event will occur.
    • Only God knows exactly when it will happen (2 Peter 3:10). We can’t know.
    • We just need to make sure we are prepared when it arrives!
  • Numerous other verses provide the same guarantee (Matthew 10:14-15; 11:22; 12:36; John 5:28-29; Acts 24:25; Hebrews 9:27; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6).

The world will be judged on this day (Acts 17:31).

  • This includes everyone!
  • Every person will give an account to God (Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-34).

The world will be judged in righteousness on this day (Acts 17:31).

  • This means that no mistakes will be made on this day.
    • There is nothing we can hide from God (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
    • God’s judgment will be 100% correct!
  • God will execute the judgment through His Son (John 12:48).
    • Every person will stand before Jesus (Matthew 25:31-32).
    • Every person will give an account to Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:10).
    • Every person will hear one of two things from Jesus (Matthew 25:34, 41).
    • The judgment He renders will have eternal consequences (Matthew 25:46).

Jesus’ resurrection guarantees this day (Acts 17:31b).

  • If there is no Judgment Day coming, then it doesn’t really matter how we live.
  • But Jesus was raised. In fact, after being raised He was seen by hundreds of people (1 Corinthians 15:3-6; Acts 2:32; 10:40-41)!
  • Jesus’ resurrection is confirmation that He has the power to judge and the Judgment Day will occur as God has promised (Romans 1:4).

We need to be preparing for this day (Acts 17:30).

  • There will be two groups who stand before Jesus on this day (Matthew 7:13-14).
    • There will be a small group (the saved).
    • There will be a large group (the lost).
    • Our obedience to God will determine which group we will be in (Matthew 7:21-23).
  • God wants every person to be in the saved group (1 Timothy 2:4).

Conclusion: God wants His people to have confidence concerning the Judgment Day!Do you have this confidence (1 John 4:17)?
