Thousands of years ago God saw that wickedness of man was great on the earth. This caused Him to feel sorrow that He had ever made men and in His righteous indignation He decided to blot them out from the face of the earth. But a man named Noah found favor in His eyes (Genesis 6:5-8). God commanded Noah to build an ark and through it he and his family would be saved from a global flood.

From Noah’s story there are so many lessons to be learned:

  • There is a lesson about preparation (Matthew 24:37).
  • There is a lesson about sin (2 Peter 2:4-5).
  • There is a lesson about baptism (1 Peter 3:21).
  • There are even a few lessons about faith (Hebrews 11:6-7).

What did Noah’s faith lead him to do?

It led him to believing in the unseen.

  • God told Noah He was going to do some extraordinary things (Genesis 6:17).
    • Keep in mind that Noah had never seen any of these things before in His life!
    • But he believed God would do what He promised. If Noah didn’t, why did he spent about 100 years building the ark?
  • We must have that same kind of faith as we prepare for God to do things we have never seen before (2 Peter 3:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18).

It led him to obeying God.

  • In addition to believing, Noah also did all that God commanded him (Genesis 6:22).
  • Throughout the Bible we learn that faith that pleases God requires action!
    • James says that faith without works (obedience) is dead (James 2:17, 26).
    • Those in the “hall of faith” were commended because their belief in the promises of God was accompanied with action (Hebrews 11:4-24).

It led him to showing love for others.

  • Noah wasn’t just thinking his own salvation while building the ark.
    • He was also thinking about those in his household (Hebrews 11:7).
    • He was also thinking about those lost in the world (2 Peter 2:5).
  • We must have the same mindset (1 Peter 3:7; Ephesians 6:4; Matthew 28:19).

It led him to convicting the world.

  • Noah’s actions caused people to think about their wickedness.
  • God wants us to stand out in the same way (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:15).

The Final Outcome: It led to his salvation! He was saved by God’s grace through faith. We are saved in the same way from our sins (Ephesians 2:8-9).
