Many disciples in Corinth denied the resurrection of the dead. They were just like the Sadducees who constantly debated Jesus (Matthew 22:23).
In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul sets the record straight for these brethren. He tells them that there is coming a day of resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:35-58).
It is part of our one hope.
- There is only one hope (Ephesians 4:4). The resurrection is a significant part of that hope (Philippians 3:10-11; Acts 23:6).
- Jesus promised a day of resurrection (John 5:28-29).
- Paul made the same promise (1 Corinthians 15:20-26). This will take place at the end when the Lord returns.
- Jesus’ resurrection guarantees this event!
We will be changed.
- We will receive imperishable bodies (1 Corinthians 15:42, 50-54).
- God gives different bodies to seeds (1 Corinthians 15:37-38).
- God gives different bodies to animals (1 Corinthians 15:39-40).
- God is fully capable of giving us different bodies as well!
- We will receive glorious bodies. Look at the glory given to the sun, moon, and stars (1 Corinthians 5:40-41). Look at the glory of the things sown into the ground (1 Corinthians 15:42-44). Look at the glory given to Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:45-49; Matthew 13:43; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 John 3:2).
Death will be defeated once and for all.
- We all have been impacted by death in some way (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).
- On the day of our resurrection, there will be no more funerals and cemeteries.
- Both physical and spiritual death will be completely abolished!
How should we respond to this coming day?
- We need to be steadfast and immovable (1 Corinthians 15:58). We must never take away from Jesus and His grace.
- We need to always abound in the work of God (1 Corinthians 15:58). This requires us to be fully invested in kingdom work. We need to work hard and diligently for the Lord.
- We need to know that our work for God is not in vain. Everything we do in the service of God is worth it!
Conclusion:
Are you on the path to receive the imperishable and glorious body?
