How much do you know about the “Book of Life?” It is actually mentioned in the Bible quite a bit (both in the Old and New Testaments). This is a book that belongs to God. God actually writes in this book all the time!
Let’s consider a few other important things that we need to know about this book.
5 Facts about the Book of Life:
- It is a book of names.
- These names are being written down in heaven (Luke 10:19-20).
- These names are recorded in the book of life (Philippians 4:2-3).
- Is your name in this book?
- It is a book of life.
- Only those who have eternal life are listed in this book. (Philippians 4:3; Revelation 20:15; 21:27).
- Those in this book have obeyed the Lord’s plan of salvation.
- They have believed in Jesus (John 8:24).
- They have repented of sin (Luke 13:3).
- They have confessed the name of Jesus (Acts 8:37).
- They have been baptized for the remission of sins (Mark 16:16).
- Those who are members of the Lord’s church have their names enrolled in heaven (Hebrews 12:22-23).
- It is a book that brings joy.
- It brings joy to those who have their names written in it (Philippians 4:3-4; Luke 10:17-20).
- Do you remember how you felt you when you first had your name recorded in this book?
- Names can be removed from it.
- Moses was aware of this (Exodus 32:31-32).
- The Psalmist was aware of this (Psalm 69:28).
- Jesus told the church at Sardis to be aware of this (Revelation 3:5).
- This reality is a powerful refute to the doctrine of “once saved, always saved.”
- It will be used on Judgment Day (Revelation 20:12-15).
- The first books mentioned are probably a reference to the law of God. In our case, we will be judged by the New Covenant law (John 12:48).
- The book of life will also be opened on Judgment Day. Only those whose names are found in it will be allowed to enter into heaven (Revelation 20:15).
Two Important Questions:
- Is your name found in this book?
- It is more important that your name be here than anywhere else.
- If it isn’t, you need to submit to God right now!
- If so, are you doing what is necessary to make sure it stays there?
- Are you being faithful to the Lord?
- Remember your name can be removed!
