Even though we have come a long way, unfortunately, even in 2021, racism continues to be on many people’s minds. It continues to pose challenges to people across the globe. But thankfully, the Bible provides a solution to this problem.
Let’s consider how the scriptures can help effectively answer the challenges of racism.
Racism is a heart problem.
- What is racism? “When one views their race as being superior and has the right to dominate others, or that a particular racial group is inferior to others.” Dictionary.com
- “Poor treatment of or violence against people because of their race, or the belief that some races of people are better than others.” Merriam-Webster.com
- This problem existed even in Bible times (John 4:9; Acts 17:24-27).
- At the core of racism is the sin of pride (Mark 7:20-23). It is prideful for someone to believe that he is superior to another because of his race.
The solution to racism is Jesus.
- Jesus created all people (Colossians 1:16).
- Jesus created all people in His image (Genesis 1:26-27).
- Jesus loves all people (John 3:16).
- Jesus died for all people (1 Timothy 2:6; 2 Corinthians 5:15).
- Jesus died to tear down racial barriers (Ephesians 2:13-18).
How should we respond to the racial tension in our culture?
- Never be part of the problem (Acts 10:34-35).
- Bridge the gap (Matthew 5:9; John 17:20-21).
- Avoid judging too quickly (1 Corinthians 13:7; Matthew 18:15; Proverbs 29:20; James 1:19).
- Love everyone (Matthew 22:39; 7:12; Luke 10:27-29).
- Pray for the nation. Pray for racist people (Luke 23:34).
- Remember heaven. In heaven, there will be no racism (1 Corinthians 15:50)!
Conclusion:
Let’s continue to work together to show the world the love of God and how wrong, and foolish racism is!
