Have you ever felt the joy that comes with bringing a lost soul to the Lord? Sadly, so many disciples go their entire lives, never feeling this joy. So many rob themselves of this joy because they are intimidated by many things concerning the work of evangelism.

What can intimidate us?

  • Lack of experience. Many believe that evangelism is only for those who are seasoned in the faith. This is not what we find in the case of the Samaritan woman that Jesus converted. She had not been converted long when she started telling others about the Lord (John 4:28-30).
  • Lack of Bible knowledge. Usually, the lost people we are studying with don’t have a lot of Bible knowledge. They don’t need us to help them understand the difficult books of the Bible. They need us to tell them about Jesus and what to do to have their sins washed away by His blood (Acts 8:35).
  • Lack of skill. Some believe that evangelism requires being a skilled teacher. The Samaritan woman was highly effective in winning souls by simply offering an invitation (John 4:28-30). Andrew did the same thing with his brother Peter (John 1:35-42).
  • The possibility of rejection. The apostles faced this obstacle. And yet, they never allowed it to prevent them from continuing in the mission of Jesus (Acts 5:41-42).
  • The baggage of the lost. It is not uncommon for disciples to fall into the trap of spiritual soil inspectors. We forget that the power to save is found in the gospel (Romans 1:16). Saul, Zaccheus, and the Samaritan woman were all unlikely converts who were persuaded by the gospel!

How do we rise above these things?

  • We need to develop strong zeal. A strong passion for Jesus will help us naturally spark up conversations about Him (Romans 1:14-16; John 4:28-30, 39). If we can passionately talk about politics and sports, shouldn’t we be able to do the same with Jesus?
  • We need to pray fervently. We need to talk to God and beg Him to help us develop courage. We need to appeal to Him for boldness, open doors, and effectiveness (Colossians 4:2-4; Ephesians 6:19; Acts 4:31).
  • We need to start seeing people who they are truly are. People outside of Christ are spiritually dead! They are drowning in a sea of sin. They need us to help them before it is too late (John 4:35)!
  • We need to develop a sense of urgency. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Today is the day to invite and try to set up a Bible study with someone (John 4:35). Tomorrow is not promised to any of us!

Conclusion:

There is no more incredible feeling than helping someone come to the Lord. Do you need help coming to Him?
