How do you view God? Do you see God as someone who is always angry and constantly trying to trip you up in your life? Do you see God as someone who is against you and unconcerned about your problems?

One of the great truths revealed about God in the Bible is He is good (Psalm 27:13; 34:8; 100:4-5; 107:1; 145:7-9; Mark 10:17-18; Romans 8:28). Consider five things that make God good.

God blesses all people all the time.

  • The whole creation is dependent on God (Psalm 145:14-16).
  • God extends blessings to believers and nonbelievers daily (Matthew 5:43-45).
  • Every living thing is sustained and provided for by God.

He considers us.

  • God knows and cares about our problems (1 Peter 5:6-7).
  • God is mindful of us and has crowned us with glory and majesty (Psalm 8:3-5).
  • God allows us to talk to Him whenever we desire, and He promises to listen (Philippians 4:6-7).

He speaks to us through His word.

  • The Bible comes from God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
  • Through the Bible, God reveals Himself and His will for our lives. God shows His love for us, and how He demonstrated that love by giving us His Son (Romans 5:8).
  • Only a good God would reveal His identity to us and ensure that message was preserved.

He provides us with a path through Jesus.

  • Jesus is the ultimate expression of God’s goodness. His work at Calvary provides the only path for us to be saved (John 14:6; 1 John 2:2).
  • Jesus’ death demonstrates just how badly God wants us to be saved (John 3:16).
  • Whenever we begin questioning God’s love and goodness, we need to think about the cross!

He allows us to go to heaven.

  • The best thing about heaven is the presence of God and the Lamb (Revelation 22:1-5).
  • When we have faith and obey His word, we are put on a path to be with God in His eternal presence in heaven.
  • Only a good God would desire and make a way for us to live with Him forever in His house (John 14:3!

How should we respond?

  • We should trust God’s goodness (Genesis 3:1-6). Eve failed to trust in the goodness of God! She falsely believed that God’s commandments were not in her best interest.
  • We should see God’s goodness. We should see God’s goodness in nature, family, the church, prayer, the Bible, and the freedoms we enjoy.
  • God’s goodness should stir us. We should be zealous about serving the Lord because He first loves us (1 John 4:9).

Conclusion:

Praise God that He is good!
