God expects His people to maintain an attitude of thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7; Colossians 3:15-17; 4:2; 2 Corinthians 9:15). This can be difficult to do. During these uncertain and usual times like this, it can be easy for us to fall into the trap of negativity and lose sight of our blessings.

In this study, we want to celebrate and express thanksgiving for some of our gifts from the Lord.

Be thankful for mom.

  • For a little over 100 years, the second Sunday of May is set aside to honor mothers. This attitude is certainly biblical. God wants us to honor our mothers as often as we can because they have done so much for us.
  • They gave birth to us. They nurtured and took care of us. For many of us, our moms were the ones who first taught us the word of God.
  • The “worthy woman” had a family who praised and appreciated her value (Proverbs 31:28-31).

Be thankful for today.

  • What a blessing it is to be able to gather together and worship God! Due to the uncertainties surrounding the COVID19 virus, for the entire month of April, we were unable to do that.
  • This pandemic has instilled in me a greater appreciation for God’s plan for the assembly (Hebrews 10:23-25). It has caused me to value even more the times I get to be with my brethren.
  • More than ever, we should realize that the blessings we have today are not guaranteed to us tomorrow (James 4:13-16).
  • We have to avoid getting bogged down with the worries of tomorrow, that we lose track of the blessings we have today (Matthew 6:34).

Be thankful for Jesus.

  • Be thankful for who Jesus is (Hebrews 13:8). In a world that is continuously changing, Jesus is unchangeable!
  • Be thankful for the blessings that have been made available through Jesus’ blood (2 Corinthians 9:15; Romans 5:6-11). Through Jesus, we can receive justification, salvation, and reconciliation.
  • Paul dedicated his entire life as an offering of thanksgiving to the Lord (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 2:20). We must do the same!

Conclusion:

Only those who obey Jesus are genuinely thankful for His blessings (John 14:15).
