In Revelation 4:1-11, John describes something hard for our mortal minds to imagine. He describes heaven. He gives us a glimpse of some of the amazing things he witnessed in heaven.

It is often believed that Revelation 21-22 offers the best description of heaven. Many brethren are divided on whether those chapters describe heaven or the glorified church. There is no doubt that Revelation 4 describes this amazing spiritual place (Revelation 4:1).

What was John able to see when given a glimpse into heaven?

God on the throne (Revelation 4:2-3).

  • John saw God in all His glory sitting on His throne! He saw God as holy, marvelous, majestic, and full of power.
  • God reigning on His throne reminds us that He is the One who is ultimately in charge.
  • Instead of being worried and paranoid about the future, we need to take comfort in the reality that God rules and is in complete control. As long as we stick with Him, everything will be fine.

God being worshipped (Revelation 4:4-11).

  • All of those in heaven worship God the Father.
  • They also worship the Lamb and Lion from the tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:1-14).
  • We need to be careful of becoming so absorbed and fixated with this world that we are not excited about being in heaven offering perfect worship to God forever.
  • Heaven will not be dull. God’s amazing presence will compel us to fall before His throne and praise His glorious name with zeal and passion.
  • It will be a worship experience that we cannot begin to fathom!

God in perfect fellowship with His people (Revelation 4:4-6).

  • The 24 thrones with 24 elders probably represent the totality of God’s people. There were 12 tribes in Old Testament Israel and 12 apostles who were the early church leaders.
  • The “sea of glass” points back to the temple’s furnishings (2 Chronicles 4:1-6). In the temple, “the sea” was a giant water basin that priests used for ritual purification before they approached God. It served as a reminder that fellowship with God is only possible by becoming washed and pure before Him.
  • Because of the blood of Jesus, in heaven, we will be in the actual presence of God. We will see God’s face, be near Him, and be in perfect fellowship with God.

Conclusion:

Are you preparing to experience the amazing blessings of heaven?
