My name is Ryan Goodwin. I serve as the preacher for the Monte Vista congregation, having previously worked with churches in Oregon and Texas. I’m very happy that you have shown interest in the work that we’re doing at Monte Vista, and would like to introduce myself to you!
I was born and raised in Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. My parents and grandparents were instrumental in teaching me the gospel, and I have been a Christian since I was thirteen. I got my first experience in public speaking at the Beaverton church of Christ, where I was given the chance to present short Wednesday night talks. It was not long before I started teaching Bible classes to the younger kids and giving full-length sermons.
I studied music at the University of Oregon, then studied English at Portland State University, all while seeking more experience preaching and teaching. It was during this time that I completed a preaching internship at the Fairview Park church of Christ in Little Rock, AR, and then a two-year training program at the Beaverton church of Christ, studying under Mark Dunagan.
I married the love of my life, the former Rebecca Bonds, in 2006. Having grown up near Prescott, our move to Phoenix is somewhat of a homecoming for her. She attended the University of Arizona, and has family all over the state, from Benson to Prescott Valley. We have three small children together: Sterling, Heidi, and Bennett. In my free time I am an avid runner, hiker, and fan of University of Oregon athletics.
I have been preaching for over ten years, with speaking engagements all over the United States. In my work at Monte Vista I teach public and private Bible classes, preach sermons every week, appear on a weekly radio program, and provide counseling for church members who are struggling with spiritual challenges. I am always happy to hear your feedback or take questions you have about the Bible-based work going on at Monte Vista!
